The volatility of privacy, or – privacy wanted!
To decide for yourself who gets to know what and in what way is the greatest value of privacy. This self-determination is strongly influenced by digitalization in all areas of life.
The increasing possibilities of personal data collection and its utilization leads more and more to the discussion about privacy and derived from it to the term “digital self-determination”. Digitally stored information about our concerning movements behavior, our preferences, wishes and purchase decisions result in a constructed “digital self”. The “digital self” offers a pleasant comfort zone, for example the personal image presentation on the net or the receipt of personal suggestions based on individual preferences and offers over the Internet. Practical? Perhaps.
But where is the boundary between “private” and “public” and what conditions are necessary to be able to act independently?
These and other questions are investigated in this thesis and prepared in an analog way for better understanding. Topics such as the uncontrollable distribution of content or the loss of control over of personal user data are examples that should be explored in a playful way. FH JOANNEUM
